The UNE New England Nomads AFL Club is a very competitive and social club in the Tamworth AFL Competition. They regularly hold a number of functions throughout the year, including the popular Annual Ball, and are always keen to welcome new players.

The UNE Badminton Club is a relatively small but strong club of about 30 members.  They encourage new memberships and provide coaching, with the first session free. For further information, contact Suresh or come along to their members’ sessions on:

There are 9 men's teams, 10 women's teams, twilight, indoor and over 35's soccer availble at SportUNE. The women’s football league is played each Sunday across a number of grades. The premiere league season runs during terms 2 and 3, with games held each Saturday afternoon and training during the week.  The UNE Women’s soccer team regularly performs well at both the Northern and Australian University Games.

The UNE Netball Club is well established at UNE, running a 40 team strong competition every Saturday morning with around 500 members in the women’s and mixed competition. Whether you would like to play competitively, be selected in Uni Games and State League teams, or just play socially with your friends, UNE Netty has a grade that will suit you! UNE Netball regularly sends women's and mixed teams to the Northern Uni Games, coming home with great success.

Albies Netball Club is the largest Netball Club in the Saturday morning competition, with over 100 members competing across a range of grades.

 

Outdoor Adventure

The outdoor adventure club meets each Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to scale the SportUNE indoor climbing wall. The club also runs regular weekend excursions rock climbing, white water paddling, caving, abseiling, mountain biking, bushwalking and canyoning with experienced instructors. Get involved – it’s a great chance to get fit and learn new skills while experiencing the magnificent national parks throughout the New England region. All gear (except mountain bikes) is provided.  New members are welcome to come along to the club nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Underwater Hockey

Underwater hockey is a fast moving team sport that quickly builds swimming and snorkelling skills. The game is played on the bottom of a swimming pool by two teams of six. Players wear fins, mask and snorkel, a protective glove and cap. The stick is approximately 30cm long, the puck about 1.5kg, with a 3 metre goal at both ends of the pool.

The sport can be played at many levels from casual drop in fun (our group) to serious competition. It can be an incredible work-out and one that will improve your breathing and underwater skills. Come try it for only $5 at the SportUNE pool on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30.

UNE Water Polo club won Sport UNE Club of the Year in 2010 and is looking forward to another successful season in 2011. It is a growing club with over 120 players and sponsored by the Armidale Ex Services Club. Competitions commence at the start of each semester and are held across two grades. Games are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm and new players are always welcome.  You don’t have to be an experienced player – beginners are encouraged to come along and give it a go.
