We’re looking forward to continue working with you, to make SportUNE Football League an even stronger and more enjoyable competition for our region.

Our competition comprises of foundation football clubs with over 50 years history. Clubs join us from across the region, including; Guyra, Glen Innes, Inverell, Walcha, Uralla, and numerous Armidale-based clubs.

We are focused on providing an accessible competition to all, that builds upon the success of regional Football and community spirit.

The SUFL competition hosts players from five years old, up to senior 1st-grade division, with many teams boasting generations of players.

Updates on this year’s competition in alignment with COVID-19 return to train and playing guidelines will be made available once confirmed by competition management and club delegates.

COVID Guidelines

All SportUNE Football League Clubs must have an approved COVID Safe activity plans.

  • Each Football League Club has to submit a COVID-Safe Activity Plan, that has been approved by The University of New England. Guidelines as advised by the NSW Government.
  • Participants should only arrive at their match or training close to the start time to avoid unnecessary congregating.
  • Participants must maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, ensure good hygiene practices are maintained and follow the directional signage at all times.
  • Clubs are responsible for the safe and appropriate delivery of the training session, in accordance with their approved COVID-Safe Activity Plan. SportUNE staff and UNELife Safety, Security & Information officers will also be patrolling if further assistance is required.
  • During Stage 2 restrictions, there should be no socialising before or after training sessions
  • Spectators attending events are to be minimal.
  • If you have visited Victoria in the 14 days please do not attend events.

These guidelines will be under constant review and updated frequently to ensure a safe staged approach.



How to enter your team in the SportUNE Football League

Each individual player needs to register to play. If you’re a family group, across different age groups and divisions, you can now register in the same easy application or individually – whichever suits you best.

To ensure this is as easy as possible, please follow all text prompts in the SportsTG system.

Football development sessions

SUFL junior development program is running at Consett Davis Playing Fields, Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and improve your football capabilities, grow, practice, and learn new skills under expert guidance.
Everyone 8 years through to 16 Years is invited.
Bring your shin pads, boots, water bottle, and a cap.
$5 per session, paid on the day.

Active Kids Voucher

We urge parents, guardians, and carers to claim their first Active Kids Voucher ahead of registrations opening for the 2021 football season.

Football is expecting its biggest season yet following the lockdown across NSW in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Football remains the fastest growing sport in the region and expects many new players to take the pitch in 2021.

Across the Northern Tablelands region, there has been a very large increase in entry-level players (five to seven-year-olds) in the last five years.

Specifically, in the Northern Tablelands region, there has been a 26 percent increase in female Mini game players (five to 11-year-olds) in the last five years.

 About NSW government’s Active Kids Vouchers

The NSW government is again helping kids get active with their Active Kids program. The program provides two $100 vouchers for parents, guardians, and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year.

Voucher 1 is valid from January to December, with Voucher 2 valid from July to December.


If you’re a parent, carer, or guardian, the student will be eligible if they are:

  • a NSW resident
  • aged between 4.5 and 18 years
  • enrolled in school (from Kindergarten to Year 12, including those who are home-schooled or enrolled in secondary school education at TAFE NSW)
  • a current Medicare cardholder.

You can apply for a voucher for each eligible student.

You can use the voucher for registration, participation, or membership costs with an approved Active Kids provider.

What you need

  • a MyService NSW account
  • your child’s Medicare card details
  • your child’s height and weight (optional).

Note: If you have not already verified your MyService NSW account, you will need two proof of identity documents in addition to the above.

How to apply

  1. Check the eligibility requirements.
  2. Select the ‘Apply online’ button.
  3. Log in to your account, or sign up for a MyService NSW Account.
  4. Follow the prompts to apply for the voucher.
  5. Note: If you’re applying for a child’s second voucher, select ‘Apply for Active Kids Voucher 2’ on the Services tab.

To use the voucher:

  1. At registration or payment time on the SUFL website, provide the following information through the provider’s preferred process:
  • child’s full name
  • child’s date of birth
  • Active Kids voucher number.

SUFL Competition Rules & Regulations 2020

SportUNE Football league covers all ages and has players from 6 years up.

Junior players are 6-16 yrs
Adult players 16yrs+

Please note: To begin playing, the player must be turning 5 the year he/she wishes to commence. 

Team sizes

Team sizes are decided by each individual club and how many subs they would like, the maximum size is usually around 16 per adult squad.

Minimum team sizes:

  • 5-7 yr | 4 players on the field
  • 8-9yr | 7 players on the field
  • 10 yr | 9 players on the field
  • 11-16yr | 11 players on the field

Who can join the competition?

SportUNE Football League and the New England Football Clubs are working together to deliver a football competitions for:

  • Children from 5 years to 16 years and
  • Opens and Womens, 15 years and up

This is a community competition, and we welcome anyone to register.

What do you need to play?

At each match all players are required to have/wear;

  • Uniform
  • Football boots

  • A mouth guard

Red and yellow card or send off offences are decided by the match referee

Match Official Send-Off Expulsion Report

If a send-off occours in any seniors, 16, 14 and 12 divisions a Match Official Send-Off Expulsion Report must be completed.

Incident Report

All injury/incidents/near misses relating the SportUNE Football League competitions MUST be reported as soon as reasonably practicable.

For Insurance purposes, injury reports must be completed within 72 hours of the incident occurring.

Does SUFL have a Miniroo's competition?

SportUNE Football League offers a local,community-based juniors competition that includes children from 5-16yrs old, this competition is open to the entire New England Region. 

Miniroo’s is a branded competition governed by Northern NSW Football from Newcastle – SUFL offers a different competition to this.
