The Wellness Hub

As with all exercise, completing any of the online workouts or virtual classes provided by the SportUNE Wellness Hub carries an inherent risk of physical injury.

By choosing to participate you agree to accept this risk, and understand that SportUNE does not accept any liability with regards to the specific exercises or advice provided.

All exercise programs and guidelines contained here are general in nature, and can’t account for individual needs with regards to pre-existing injuries or health problems. We strongly encourage you to use common sense, and exercise at a level appropriate to you.

If you have any concerns about undertaking physical exercise, please consult with a medical professional before taking part.

Strava Club - Competition Rules

These are the Terms & Conditions for the SportUNE Wellness Hub competitions. These Terms & Conditions comply with and fall under the laws of New South Wales, Australia.

Eligibility

  1. The SportUNE Wellness Hub, Strava Club aims for broad engagement and is open to everyone and anyone.

Entries

  1. All members of the SportUNE Wellness Hub Strava Club are eligible for an achievement award.
  2. To join the club, individuals need to download the Strava App, connect with the club and upload their exercise sessions via the Strava App.
  3. Members agree to undertake exercise sessions with safely and with common sense, and to engage with other club members in a positive manner at all times. Members may be removed from the club at any time if they do not abide by these conditions.

Judging

  1. Winners of the achievement awards will be selected by at least two of the administrators of the SportUNE Wellness Hub Strava Club.
  2. Winners will be chosen based on both the amount & quality of exercise sessions posted within the given timeframe of the award (e.g. 1 week), as well as the amount of ‘engagement’ the individual has undertaken within the club.

 Prizes

  1. A SportUNE merchandise pack will given as the prize for the achievement award.
  2. The merchandise pack will be valued at a maximum total of $100 AUD.

Notifications

  1. There are a number of different ways that club members may be notified, all requesting that the participant make contact with SportUNE to organize delivery of the prize pack:
    1. The winner for each achievement award will first be posted within the Strava App.
    2. A social media post about the achievement award may be made on Facebook &/or Instagram.
    3. The winner may be contacted via phone or email if these details are known.
    4. If the participant doesn’t make contact with SportUNE, the Strava Club administrators may attempt to contact them via a direct message from within the Strava App. If the participant hasn’t been contactable within two weeks, SportUNE management reserve the right to award the achievement award to the next participant.

Family 20% Discount Policy

The Family 20% Policy refers to two or more people who are related signing up at the same time.

One member will pay full price and all other members will receive 20% off the price of their membership.

The family discount does not roll over automatically when a membership expires, the criteria must be satisfied each time a renewal is done.

Discount only available when the following criteria are satisfied;

  • Must be family members
  • All parties must be under the community membership NOT student
  • All parties must sign up at the same time
  • All parties must be present at the time of signing up
  • All parties must be 15 or over, if under 15, a meeting with the fitness coordinator is required prior to signing up
  • Offer excludes 1 month and Direct Debit memberships
  • Discount may apply to more than 2 family members i.e. if there is 4 in a family and they all sign up, only one will pay full price

Gym Policy

Conduct

  • Patrons must respect their fellow gym users at all times.
  • Patrons must observe directions/instructions given by Sport UNE staff.
  • Derogative comments or abusive language will not be tolerated.
  • Inappropriate or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.

Access

  • Access to the gym is available during advertised times only.
  • Entry to the gym is via the Centre reception after your admission is recorded on the Sport UNE point of sale system.
  • Towels must be taken into the gym and used on the equipment during a workout.
  • Please depart the gym 10 mins prior to Sport UNE’s Centre closing time. 

Apparel

  • A minimum of a singlet top or crop top and shorts at all times in the gym.
  • Covered footwear to be worn at all times. Sandals and thongs are not permitted.

Gym Equipment

  • In consideration of your fellow patrons please:
    • Return weights to their weights stack after use.
    • Don’t drop weights or leave weights lying on the floor.
    • Complete the booking board for the cardiovascular equipment BEFORE using the cardiovascular equipment.
    • Vacate equipment when not in use (i.e. do not rest on machines).
    • Wear gloves when using the boxing equipment.
    • Reserve/use only ONE piece of equipment at any time unless approval is obtained from gym staff on duty.
  • Some/all machines may be restricted to some patrons.
  • A hazard assessment on each machine will be performed for persons aged between 12 and 15 years. 

Age Restrictions

  • The minimum age for gym patrons is 15 years and above (subject to conditions below).
    • parent/guardian approval is provided, and
    • suitability has been assessed by Sport UNE staff, and/or
    • a Doctor’s referral is provided, and
    • constant supervision is provided by a parent or guardian
    • Gym Attendants are on duty
  • Entry under the age of 15 years can be granted if the child is a part of a scheduled program or a participant in:
  • A sporting team, junior athletics squad, school group
  • A special physical activity program conducted by the centre
  • A water or swim class
  • Other supervised or structured activities
  • All school groups will adhere to SportUNE policies.

Assistance

  • Please inform reception, or our gym staff, of your special requirements prior to your visit so that we may better accommodate your needs.

Please note: Failure to comply with the above rules could result in Sport UNE asking a patron to leave the premises or, if considered serious, revoking their membership.

Group Fitness Policy

Conduct

  • Patrons must respect their fellow Group Fitness users at all times.
  • Patrons must observe directions/instructions given by Sport UNE staff.
  • Derogative comments or abusive language will not be tolerated.
  • Inappropriate or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated.

Access

  • Access to the Group fitness classes is available after your admission is recorded and you have received your payment receipt for the customer service team member.
  • Towels must be taken into classes that are equipment based.
  • Please depart the class when it has finished this ensures the next class is on time.

Apparel

  • A minimum of a singlet top or crop top and shorts are to be worn at all times while participating in Group Fitness Classes.
  • Covered footwear to be worn at all times. Sandals and thongs are not permitted.

Equipment

  • In consideration of your fellow patrons please:
    – Return weights, bars, mats and steps to the storage cupboard after use. o Don’t drop weights or leave weights lying on the floor.
    – Wear inner gloves while participating in boxing classes.

Age Restrictions

  • The minimum age for participation in Group Fitness classes is 15 years and above (subject to conditions below).
  • Entry between age 12 and 15 years can be granted providing that:
    – parent/guardian approval is provided, and
    – suitability has been assessed by Sport UNE staff, and/or o a Doctor’s referral is provided, and
    – constant supervision is provided by a personal trainer.
  • Entry under the age of 15 years can be granted if the child is a part of a scheduled program or a participant in: o A sporting team, junior athletics squad, school group
    – A special physical activity program conducted by the centre
    – A water or swim class
    – Other supervised or structured activities
  • All school groups will adhere to Sport UNE policies.

  • Please inform reception or our Fitness staff of your special requirements prior to your visit so that we may better accommodate your needs.

Membership Agreement

If I am permitted to use SportUNE facilities, I acknowledge that I do so on the following terms:

  1. The completion of a Pre‐Exercise Screening Questionnaire is required by all new members or previous members whose membership has been expired for a period of greater than twelve months.
  2. It is the member’s responsibility to provide SportUNE staff with all relevant medical history, including any restrictions, whether requested or not.
  3. It is at the members own risk that he/she/they use SportUNE’s facilities, and members, therefore, agree to release, to the fullest extent permitted by the law, Sport UNE, its staff, and agents, from all claims and demands of whatever kind which may arise from his/her use of Sport UNE’s facilities.
  4. It is the member’s responsibility to observe and abide by SportUNE’s rules, policies and procedures, as well as those directions given by SportUNE staff and agents.
  5. Membership cards must be scanned/swiped at the Customer Service Reception desk before each visit to SportUNE’s facilities. SportUNE staff reserve the right to ask members to leave if this is not adhered to.
  6. Appropriate exercise attire and footwear must be worn whilst in the facility. A shirt or singlet must be worn at all times. Shoes must be fully enclosed. Unacceptable exercise attire includes denim, jeans, sandals, thongs, high heeled shoes, etc.
  7. Members must bring a towel to every workout. Personal hygiene must also be maintained at all times (this includes the use of deodorant).
  8. Bags are to be left in lockers or bagage compartments provided.
  9. Children under the age of fifteen (15) are not permitted in the Gym and Group Fitness at any time*.
  10. All weights must be placed back in the racks provided on completion of their use.
  11. Misuse of equipment, bad language, or misbehaviour will result in the member being asked to leave. Suspension, or even cancellation of membership (without refund), may also apply.
  12. Failure to attend a booked fitness assessment or program appointment, or cancellation without twelve (12) hours’ notice, may result in a fee being charged to the member.^
  13. Making or receiving calls from mobile phones is not permitted at, or near, the Customer Service Reception desk. Mobile calls elsewhere will be tolerated as long as they do not interfere with the schedules of SportUNE members.
  14. It is expected that members will share equipment in a fair and reasonable manner.
  15. SportUNE student memberships are only allocated to students of the University of New England, local high school students and aged pensioners.
  16. Memberships are not transferable.°
  17. A member’s ID card is not to be used by any other person other than the member to whom the ID card has been issued. Misuse may result in exclusion without refund from SportUNE facilities by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UNE Life.
  18. Memberships will be refunded if cancelled within a cooling-off period of seven (7) days.
  19. UNE scheduled closure over the Christmas/New Year break is calculated and included in all membership options.
  20. SportUNE reserves the right to alter pricing at any time during the term of an individual’s membership.
  21. SportUNE reserves the right to close any of our facilities at any time for upgrades or maintenance without due notice given to members.
  22. Amendments to membership are subject to administration fees payable upon request.
  23. Memberships that are due to expire, can only be renewed within the month prior to the expiration of the current membership.
  24. Cancellations and holds of membership are permitted subject to the relevant SportUNE policies.
  25. SportUNE reserves the right to alter the membership agreement at any time with due notice given to members.
  26. Staff members of the University of New England join SportUNE as community members.

    * Schools groups and campus tours may be exempt from this rule-following granted permission from the CEO of SportUNE.
    ^ The waiving of this fee for emergency cancellations will be determined upon application to the CEO of SportUNE.
    ° The transfer of memberships may be permissible in extraordinary circumstances upon application to the CEO of SportUNE.

Membership Cancellation Policy

Membership Cancellation Terms and Conditions

  • Cancellation of membership requests should be in writing and sent via email to sportune@une.edu.au.
  • A cooling-off period of seven (7) days applies to all memberships whereby a member can terminate the membership and receive a refund of the amount paid at the time of purchase less any use of the Facilities or participation in the Programs during the cooling-off period which will be subject to the applicable casual rate and will be deducted from any refund due

Cancellations

  • Memberships subject to the Direct Debit Option may be cancelled by providing 30 days written notice to SportUNE.  All cancellations take 30 days to process and the following cancellation fee (which are subject to change) will apply:
    • Direct Debit Option Memberships that are cancelled during the first 12 months of the term – will incur a cancellation fee equivalent to two (2) months membership fee

Refunds

  • In respect of cancellations of Memberships, Facility Packs & Programs that have been paid upfront, no refunds will be provided.
  • The CEO will permit cancellations with refunds for medical reasons only if supported by appropriate documentation.

Membership Amendment

  • Membership amendments in relation to this policy include:
    • Change of facility options
    • Upgrading membership
  • Membership amendments are available for memberships of three (3) months or longer.
  • Each application for amendment must be accompanied by a Membership Amendment Form
  • All membership amendments must to be directed to the Customer Service Coordinator during business hours
  • Other requests for amendment may be granted at the discretion of the Executive Director.

Membership Holds Policy

  • Membership holds are available for memberships which are 3 months or longer
  • The maximum aggregate period a membership can be placed on hold is:
    – Four (4) weeks on a 3-month membership,
    – Six (6) weeks on a 6-month membership,
    – Seven (7) weeks on a 9-month membership and,
    – Eight (8) weeks on a 12-month membership
  • The minimum hold period is two (2) weeks
  • Memberships cannot be placed on hold within the final two (2) weeks of membership
  • Each hold period will incur an $11.00 administration fee
  •  All holds must be made prior to the event; retrospective holds will not be granted
  • Membership holds may only be granted on the following grounds:
    – Medical
    – Work related absence, or
    – University practical engagements outside of the local area (the local area is deemed to be a radius of more than 50 kilometers from Armidale)
  • Other requests may be granted at the discretion of the Executive Director
  • All hold applications to be directed to the Customer Service Coordinator during business hours
  • The administrative fee to be paid upon application
  • Documentation to be provided upon request for a membership hold

Salary Sacrifice Eligibility

To be eligible for staff salary sacrifice;

  1. The staff member must be a current employee of UNE;
  2. They must be purchasing a 12-month membership;
  3. They must hold either a permanent or fixed-term appointment (guaranteed income each fortnight);
  4. This appointment must not be due to cease before they will have paid off their membership, that is, during the next 4 paydays. If the staff member ceases employment during the next 4 paydays, section 4 of the Agreement will be activated; and
  5. If a staff member decides to salary sacrifice their gym membership, they will not be able to claim it on their health insurance.

Video Surveillance CCTV Policy

SportUNE follows the University’s guidelines in regards to Video Surveillance & CCTV Policy
