National University Sporting Opportunities – Unisport Australia
Unisport Australia is the peak governing body for university sport nationwide, representing 43 member universities and more than one million students. They deliver national sporting championships, participation programs and community initiatives that strengthen student wellbeing, performance and connection through sport.
Each year, students from the University of New England have the opportunity to compete in Unisport Australia events at a national level, showcasing their skills and proudly representing UNE across a range of university sporting competitions.
The 2026 Unisport Nationals will be held in Perth, Western Australia from 26th September – 3rd October, bringing together thousands of student athletes from across Australia to compete in a multi-sport festival of competition across more than 30 different sports. Events span from teams sports such as basketball, netball and Rugby 7’s to individual disciplines line judo and fencing.
Unisport Australian also delivers stand-alone national championships throughout the year in selected sports (such as athletics, swimming, triathlon, cricket and more), providing UNE Students with multiple opportunities to compete at high levels and contribute to the national university sport calendar.
In addition to these flagship competitions, Unisport also hosts the Indigenous Nationals. The 30th Indigenous Nationals and will take place 29th June – 3rd July 2026 at the University of Newcastle, NSW. The week-long event features mixed competition in touch football, basketball, netball and volleyball, celebrating indigenous culture, sport and community among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university athletes.
