SportUNE hosts a fun and social Twilight Soccer competition that spans three evenings each summer. Whether you’re 10-16 years old or part of an open men’s, women’s, or mixed team, there’s a spot for everyone, no matter your skill level.

Refunds

No refunds will be given once the competition begins, except in exceptional circumstances and with approval from the competition Administrator.

2024 example times;

Tuesday

  • U12s: 5pm
  • Women’s: from 6pm

Wednesday

  • Men’s: from 6pm

Thursday

  • U14s: 4pm
  • U16s: 5pm
  • Mixed: from 6pm

Team Size

  • The maximum number of players permitted to take the field is seven (7) mixed must always have at least three (3) women on the field.
  • A Minimum of four (4) players are required to avoid a forfeit.
  • The maximum of twelve (12) players can be registered for any team.
  • Players must be at least 16 years old to participate in the open divisions (Women’s, Men’s or Mixed). Special consideration may be given to younger players of a high standard, provided a waiver is completed prior to taking the field.

Match Duration

  • Each match will consist of two 25-minute halves, with a 5-minute half-time and a 5-minute changeover between games. If a match starts late, the referee will reduce the length of each half to ensure the fixture finishes on time.
  • In the event of a draw, the result will stand. No extra time or alternative methods will be used to determine a winner.
  • All matches must commence within 5 minutes of the scheduled starting time. There will be no stoppage time.

Game Rules

  • All kick offs must be taken from the halfway line (at the start of play and after a goal is scored).
  • A goal can be scored directly from a kick-off at the halfway line.
  • Sliding tackles are not permitted. Players must be on both feet to make a tackle; otherwise, an indirect free kick will be awarded.
  • A player (excluding the goalkeeper) who deliberately handles the ball to prevent a goal will concede a penalty and be cautioned.
  • Penalty kicks are taken from 12 yards directly in front of the goal.
  • For kick-outs from the goal line, opposition players cannot enter the goal circle until the ball has cleared the circle or been touched by another player (other than the original kicker)
  • All goal kicks must be taken within the goal circle/box.
  • A goal cannot be scored directly from a sideline ‘kick-in’.
  • The offside rule does not apply.

Interchanges

  • Unlimited interchanges are allowed, and play does not need to stop for substitutions to occur.
  • Interchanges must take place from the halfway line during stoppage in play.
  • The player substituted must leave the field before the substitute takes the field.

Points System

  • Win: 5 points
  • Score Draw: 3 points
  • Scoreless Draw: 2 points
  • Loss: 1 point
  • Bye: 5 points – 5-0 win
  • Forfeit: 0 points – 5-0 loss

Forfeit Rules

  • A team must have a minimum of four (4) players to take the field.
  • Players must be ready to start the game at the exact scheduled time.
  • If a team is unable to take the field within five (5) minutes of the scheduled start time, one goal will be awarded to the opposing team for every 2 minutes, up to a maximum of 3 goals. If the team still cannot field enough players after this period, they will forfeit the match.
  • Teams that forfeit after 12pm on the day of their scheduled game will be charged a $50 late forfeit fee. This fee must be paid before the team can return to the competition.

Shin Pads and Jewellery

  • All players MUST wear shin pads that adequately cover the shin. No player may enter the field without shin pads.
  • All players MUST remove ALL jewellery before taking the field.
  • Players who choose to play without shin pads do so at their own risk. SportUNE, referees, and opposing teams accept no liability for any resulting injuries, and players may not be eligible to make insurance claims if injured while not wearing mandated protective gear.

Caution Card

  • Yellow and red cards will be issued in accordance with IFAB regulations.
  • All red card disciplinary matters will be dealt with by SportUNE. If a player aged 16 years or younger receives a yellow or red card, their parents and/or guardians will be notified.
  • Yellow & Red Cards do not need to be issued for disciplinary action to still be taken by SportUNE if deemed necessary.

Incident Reporting

All injuries, incidents, and near misses related to SportUNE Twilight Soccer fall under SportUNE competitions.

All incidents must be reported within 72 hours of occurrence.
